This youtube video highlights Amazon and it's benefits of selling books online. The video clearly states that there is a completely different business model as the purchase is no longer tangible, it is done online. Does this also mean an end to Woolworths, Officeworks, Big W and other stores that sell the basics. We are able to order anything and everything online. In the next hundred years do you think we would even have a physical market place anymore?
I'm not too sure, I personally think we would be heading towards a shift in online shopping and physical market places would become exitinct. Do you think this would be an implication of our technology?

I believe that it is an implication due to technology. Technology is making it easier for us to operate. People are working increasingly and that between work and pleasure we are seeing a blurring of the line. Something that we use to see as pleasurable such as shopping is now taken online because of the factor that with one push of the button it is ours and we could go straight to work immediately within one sitting. But when you see stores incorporate this kind of interaction they tend to survive...so far. For example Woolworths gives you the option of shopping online and they also have a application for smart phones to have the ability to scan products to produce a shopping list. This kind of technology movement allows Woolworths to handle their 'new' age customers as well as their traditional customers who still use stores!
ReplyDeleteI work for an online retail store and one thing we struggle to overcome is the idea that people still want to try before they buy. There are many ways we combat this, mainly it is using even more technology to help them envisage the clothing on. Whether it be videos of the clothing, shoots of other girls wearing the clothing or 5 or 6 pictures of options to wearing the clothing.
ReplyDeleteThe point I am trying to make it, while a while ago we couldn't imagine not physically shopping anymore, the e-tail stores are finding newer and better ways of selling their products online and the positives are beginning to outweigh the negatives.
I deffinately cannot purchase expensive clothing online - I am willing to consider spending a small amount of money on shirts and what not online. If there is a greater risk involved in the sense of money I won't shop online. I do however prefer when there are lots of product photos - this to me as a customer is factored into my decision making process and I again my final purchase.
ReplyDeleteI think it is brilliant that online stores can provide such features and services such as photo galleries, size charts, delivery and special offers.
I love shopping online!
ReplyDeleteThere is a much larger range and i believe it is significantly cheaper.
